Who can submit a complaint to the Office of the Military Ombudsman and on what issues
The Office of the Military Ombudsman receives a significant number of complaints from servicemembers and their families on a wide range of issues. In order to ensure faster processing of complaints, here is clarification on which issues fall within the mandate of the Office and who is covered by the Law “On the Military Ombudsman.”
Who can submit a complaint:
- servicemembers;
- reservists and persons liable for military service while attending training exercises;
- members of voluntary formations of territorial communities;
- persons involved on a voluntary basis in the resistance movement in temporarily occupied territories;
- personnel of law enforcement bodies engaged in direct participation in hostilities;
- authorized representatives or legal representatives of persons covered by the Law.
Important! The Office of the Military Ombudsman has the right to consider appeals from close relatives of servicemembers only when they are submitted in the interests of servicemembers and relate to issues connected to military service.
Complaints are not considered from:
- persons liable for military service prior undergoing training exercises;
- war veterans, if the issues are not related to current military service;
- other appeals not related to the performance of military service.
The Office of the Military Ombudsman, as a state institution, operates strictly within the powers defined by law.
Please take these clarifications into account when preparing and submitting complaints. This will help avoid false expectations and enable faster and more effective responses to violations of servicemembers’ rights.
